Standing with His Majesty’s Happy Home

In 2006, Alberta Smith followed a call to serve. She left the UK and moved to Odumase, Ghana, where many children were homeless, hungry, and unable to attend school. What began with shared meals and safe spaces has grown into His Majesty’s Happy Home, an orphanage and school now serving over 250 children.
With love, determination, and deep faith, Alberta built something extraordinary. The orphanage and school have become a beacon of hope in the community.
At Heart 2 Hand, we are honoured to stand alongside Alberta and support this life-changing work.
Through music nights, fundraisers, and the generosity of our supporters, over £50,000 has been raised to build a new school. The old classrooms were overcrowded, noisy, and at risk of closing. Today, a new school building is nearly complete - a place where children can learn with dignity and joy.
What’s Next?
Thanks to our supporters, the toilets have been installed and the building has now been plastered, creating a safer and more dignified learning space.
But there is still more to do.
The school serves around 250 children in a very impoverished community, including 35 orphaned children who rely on the school for stability and opportunity.
Thanks to generous donors, we have already raised enough to cover the education of these 35 orphans for the next year. Our hope is to support them throughout their schooling so that financial hardship never forces them to drop out.
Some former students have even gone on to university, something that once seemed impossible. We would love to see more young people given that same opportunity.
Looking ahead, we hope to:
Paint the school building and create a bright, welcoming learning space
Sustain education support for the 35 orphaned children
Extend support to more of the 250 children attending the school
Encourage and assist students who pursue further education
This is more than bricks and mortar. It’s a symbol of what’s possible when people act in love and faith.
