Northern Nigeria & the Sahel Region

🌍

Compiled November 2025, following a briefing with mission partner Tunde Bolanta

Communities across Northern Nigeria and the wider Sahel region, stretching between Chad and Morocco, continue to face immense challenges. These rural, largely Muslim villages are often remote and difficult to access, yet the people remain open and responsive to the gospel.

Across the region, over 300 mission churches are active, led by faithful men and women serving by faith in areas marked by instability and unrest.

The Context

In recent months, armed conflict, banditry, and extremist violence have escalated sharply across north-west Nigeria and the Sahel. Entire communities have been displaced, farms destroyed, and livelihoods lost. According to humanitarian agencies, more than 4.8 million people in the region will require emergency food assistance this year, with hundreds of thousands already displaced.

These realities echo reports from local mission teams who continue to live and serve amid risk and uncertainty.

Field Reports from Kebbi State

Recent updates from mission stations in Shengel, Tungar Gada, and Tate villages confirm:

  • 82 families (over 400 people) displaced following armed attacks

  • 4 fatalities and 1 kidnapping (ransom not paid)

  • All livestock and stored food looted

  • Families now sheltering with believers in nearby villages

  • Church gatherings continue despite fear and loss

While Christians remain targets, the violence increasingly affects Muslim communities as well, deepening humanitarian needs and heightening the urgency of response.

Our Response

Heart 2 Hand is mobilising support alongside local partners to bring emergency relief to displaced families. Immediate priorities include:

  • Food and clothing purchased locally and delivered via trusted, monitored routes

  • Temporary shelter and relocation support to safer areas

  • Continued care for 61 displaced children currently sheltered in a partner orphanage in Kaduna

Despite the dangers, the work continues. Churches are gathering, faith is growing, and hope is being sown where fear once ruled.

Get Involved

Heart 2 Hand is inviting friends and supporters to stand with these communities through prayer, giving, and advocacy.

Together, we can help bring relief and strengthen local believers serving on the frontlines of faith and compassion.
