On Saturday 11 July, around 160 players, parents, coaches, volunteers and supporters came together at Barnet Powerleague for Play for Purpose 2026 – a morning of great football, food, community and fundraising.
Organised by Global Football Academy and the Busari family, in partnership with Heart 2 Hand (H2H), the tournament brought together young footballers across different age groups, all playing for something bigger than the result on the pitch.
Playing for Education
The purpose of the day was to help H2H provide education for children at His Majesty’s School in Ghana, including orphaned and vulnerable children.
Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, Play for Purpose raised an incredible £2,282 – enough to cover the annual education costs of 27 children.
Every team entry, donation and purchase contributed towards giving children access to education, opportunity and hope.
More Than Football
There was plenty happening away from the pitch too.
Our Caribbean food truck, One Love Flava was a huge hit, serving food throughout the event and generously donating 25% of its profits to H2H. H2H volunteers were also busy selling fans, bracelets and sweets, talking with families and sharing more about the work in Ghana.
With music from the DJ, food, raffles and plenty of conversation alongside some seriously competitive football, there was a real sense of community around the tournament.
Stronger Together
One of the highlights of Play for Purpose was seeing so many different people contribute.
From the Busari family and Global Football Academy who brought the tournament together, to the teams and coaches who participated, the food truck, volunteers, donors, parents and everyone who helped behind the scenes – the day demonstrated what can happen when people bring what they have and work towards a shared purpose.
And while we celebrate the £2,282 raised, which will be added to the £4,313, which Kayode raised months earlier, the impact goes beyond the money. New families, coaches and young people were introduced to Heart 2 Hand and the story of the children we support.
Thank You
To every player who stepped onto the pitch, every parent who supported from the sidelines, every coach, volunteer, donor and supporter – thank you.
Special thanks to Global Football Academy and the Busari family for helping turn an idea into such a fantastic day.
